Books Several of the Books written by Telmarc principals are contained herein. Some of these are already published and some are still in draft form. The works in the medical, health care and genomics areas are a result of the investment and developments funded by Telmarc and its principals. Prostate Cancer Genomics: A Systems Approach: This book is a draft of a work in progress which looks specifically a prostate cancer, a rather complex cancer, and seeks to understand the underlying genomics from a system perspective. We examine many of the gene involved, look at the pathways and suggest some system techniques to understand this cancer. We also include an analysis of the PSA controversy as part of this analysis. The reason we do this is to show that PCa is a complex disease and not a single entity and thus treatment and diagnosis must take this into account. Just as physicians see various genetic aspects in breast cancer and leukemia we argue that PCa has a very multifaceted aspect and thus the euphemistic watchful waiting is totally inappropriate, especially as to be managed by the new Government controlled health care regime. Progressivism, Individualism, and The Public Intellectual: This book is a draft of a work in progress which compares neo-individualism to neo-progressivism. It attempts to place a light on the political issues of the current day by placing them in historical context. Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes: Cause and Effect: This short book, Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes: Cause and Effect is a response to the lack of understanding of the nexus between the cause, obesity, and the effect, type 2 diabetes. There was a discussion on the Internet regarding the nexus between obesity and Type 2 Diabetes. The Press seems to be clueless but the professional literature is fairly clear. In this book we go to the primary sources and detail the physiology behind Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes and then show the primary research linking them. We then detail the costs and finally show how carbohydrate taxes function. Health Care Policy: Politics vs. Reality: This is a recent publication on the whole issue of health care. It is a timely analysis of the issues and considers the many alternatives using extensive data and financial models. The book works with facts and is not the typical policy wonk approach which too often talks philosophy rather than facts Business Plans: This was written almost twenty years ago and is still quite useful in developing a business plan. Telecom Law: This has recently been assembled from a variety of Telco Law related papers by Dr. McGarty and presents many key issues in the area. DD 649: This is a book about the destroyer Albert W Grant in World War II. The interest here is how the crew worked together as well as the fact that the action that the ship was in in the Battle of Surigao Straits was the first truly electronic battle and was strategically managed via a fully meshed communications network. This can be read in conjunction with the work on swarming and warfare. This was prepared in 2007 for the "final reunion" of the ship and its remaining crew. This is an edited version of the 2007 version. I have smoothed out sections and redone the Preface. Satellite Communications: This was written in 1980 and a great deal is still current. The document herein is the hand edited version, it was not published but reviewed and accepted by Wiley at the time. Multimedia Communications: This was written in 1988-1989 and was the first text in the area of Multimedia Communications. It was used in an MIT course which attempted to bring together Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Media Lab students in a common framework. Many of the students went on to work quite productively in the field and also to become leader in this area. Hemerocallis: Genus, Species and Genetics: This is a book written from 2005-2009 discussing the genus Hemerocallis and then using this as a platform to develop various methods for analyzing genes and their impact on secondary pathways.
